MEN'S PIRATE / RENAISSANCE COSTUME
If you are at this page, you are probably a guy wondering what the heck you're gonna do!
Look, if you're really lazy, there are actual costume vendors at the faire, and you can just buy yourself any part of an outfit right there. Its not the cheapest solution, but the easiest. Come early and pick out some threads.

If you want to try this on your own, here are some suggestions:
The best thing to do for shoes is either find yourself some harley-style leather boots, or stick to the sandals. Even Tivo sandals look better than tennis shoes if thats what you have.
For a shirt, you've got to either find a really big woman's blouse or you can buy a Poet's shirt at one of the online stores. Find a large leather belt or a really long sash to tie around your waist. Let the shirt hang out. Also, vests add to the look. For pants, even a pair of baggy black Dockers would work, pull the bottoms above your calf and tie them off with something. White tube socks won't look good. Go sock-less if you've got sandals.
Accessories make a great look. You can also buy those at the fair, but I'll warn you, they're not cheap either. Leather belts, baldrics, holders of all types, weapons, flasks.
Pirate Coats... These are hard to come up with on your own, and are usually expensive to buy. Unless you plan on using the costume a lot, I would stick to the simple costume.
